The project “Digital transition, social cohesion and gender equality: mobile banking and digital female empowerment in Africa” ​​(DIGITALFEM), with reference TED2021-130586B-I00, is part of the Ecological Transition and Digital Transition Projects (Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain), whose principal investigator (IP) is Roser Manzanera Ruiz (Department of Sociology and University Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies, University of Granada) and Co-IP Soledad Vieitez Cerdeño (Department of Social Anthropology and University Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies, UGR). It is funded by MCIN/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033 and the “European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR” for the period from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2024.

This is the only project awarded in ​​Social Sciences in the field of Feminist Studies, whose research addresses the social processes of gender equality and female empowerment in the digital transition of female entrepreneurs in the agri-food sector in multicultural urban areas of Guinea-Bissau and Tanzania. Specifically, it proposes the identification and mapping of female digital financial strategies (for example, the use of mobile technologies in their economic performance), within the framework of their specific cultural contexts, and a focus on the complex relationships between technology, gender, development, economics and socio-politics.
